Go Stun – Part 1

uturn-sign

In our local slang here, we have a term for going backwards/reversing(esp used in context of driving): ‘go-stun’.

The other day as I was driving I happened to miss a turning as I was heading to my intended destination. Rather than make a U-turn (ok, it’s not quite the same as reversing but same principle :P ) which considerably far up, I decided to take another route instead.

Though this alternate route was further than the original, I reasoned that by making the U-turn the distance would probably be the same. I found out later that not only did I misjudge the distance, I also misjudged the traffic on this alternate route. Hence, my journey was delayed by at least 15 minutes.

Valuable lesson: sometimes it’s worthwhile to ‘go stun’ and rectify your mistake.

Though you could fool yourself(like me) into thinking that going forward will be better off, the fact is that you’re probably just using it as an excuse for being lazy and the costs of not rectifying your mistake earlier could be more than just 15 minutes.

I used to do the same with studying (still do actually, hehe). You know how sometimes you don’t understand something and you skip that section thinking you’ll get it as you read further on? Then you found the next thing depended on the previous so you skip that too. Then repeat, and repeat and repeat until you’re totally lost and give up? Yea, same principle. Haha.

Take the time to make the U-turn. :)
