This has a more scifi slant to it so it doesn’t include other movies not in that genre. I got this list from here. You can go there for a more detailed description of the movie as well as early indications as to how well the movie is being received. I’ll just put the titles and tentative release dates here in this post.

Outlander (Jan 23) starring Jim Caviezel (guy who acted as Jesus in Passion of the Christ)
My thoughts: I know a few people who watched this and said it was not bad. It’s the story of Beowulf but with an alien spin in the story. I didn’t really think it’ll be good.

Coraline (Feb 6) starring Dakota Fanning
My thoughts: It’s an animation about a girl who finds a secret door to an alternate reality. The story sounds intriguing although I’m not sure I’ll be watching it in the cinema.

Push (Feb 6) starring Chris Evans (Human Torch in Fantastic 4), Dakota Fanning and Camilla Belle
My thoughts: This movie is like Heroes meets Jumper. Really. Highly kinetic scenes with interesting ideas. Of course it doesn’t go to far from the save the world kinda story but at least there aren’t like a gazillion casts with every kinda of ability under the sun. Anyways, I definitely want to watch this one but it’s not even slated to show in Malaysia for the next couple of months! NOoooo…

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (Feb 27) starring Kristen Kreuk (Lana Lang in Smallville)
My thoughts: I’ve got mixed reactions about this one. Seeing as the previous two Street Fighter movies weren’t that great, I wonder whether this will be any better. But between able to imagine this one turning out ok and Dragonball I’d pick this.

Watchmen (Mar 6) starring a bunch of not that famous people.
My thoughts: It’s another superhero movie based on a comic book by the same name. Background is that government has outlawed heroes (sound familiar?) and only does that work for the government are allowed to operate. The story begins when one of these superheroes gets killed and the rest start to wonder whether there’s a conspiracy going on. I dunno whether I’ll watch it coz it contains pretty graphic scenes of violence and sex. (so I hear) But Malaysia does have a censorship board… albeit a sometimes inconsistent one. Hehe.

Race To Witch Mountain (Mar 13) starring Dwayne John (The Rock) and two other kids
My thoughts: Powers are getting popular these days. Two telekinetic kids need to hire services of a cab driver to get away from bad people. Sounds interesting. Did I mention there’s a spaceship involved? That’s where the kids need to get to.

Knowing (Mar 20) starring Nicholas Cage and Alex Proyas
My thoughts: A doomsday movie where this numbers in a time capsule from 1950 tells what’s gonna happen. Sounds… boring.

Monsters versus Aliens (Mar 27) starring animated monsters and aliens
My thoughts: This one’s highly anticipated. I saw the trailer for this and thought the movie was probably gonna be as good as The Incredibles or something. I plan to watch this.
That’s it for the 1st quarter. Mind you, these are release dates for US so they might not be showing in Malaysia at the same time. Boo hoo…
